The Charlotte's Web Children's Library for the City of Lompoc is designed to achieve a LEED Silver Certification and will include areas for computer work, children's books, group study and tutoring, a family and parenting area, storytelling and class visits, restrooms, a homework center and staff facilities. The proposed project seeks to educate its users and the community about sustainable design, showcasing energy efficiency and environmental stewardship by conserving resources, using environmentally responsible materials including strawbale construction and integrated solare energy power generation. One of the goals is to not only build a high performance building that educates the community about sustainable design, but also to become a LEED certified project through the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) nationally recognized LEED for New Construction certification which certifies and validates the level of achievement and performance.
